Hey happy people, hope you´re all having a great start of the new year!
I think I had the best start that I could’ve had of this new year, with one week of “La Pura Vida” in the sunshine of Gran Canaria, with my love. It was very well needed after those dark and, in so many ways, challenging last months of 2015.
Without those days of sunshine, freedom and so much fun I don’t think I would have been able to come back to Trondheim after the Christmas holiday with this level of energy and inspiration that I have right now.
We had no expectations on this trip, we simply just wanted to go to the nearest place where we could feel the sun kiss our skin, and swim in the ocean. We found some extremely cheap tickets (60€ both ways!) to Las Palmas and just booked it. We thought Gran Canaria would be a “pretty touristic island”, and we prefer to travel to wilder places, and to travel without time, not just for one week. But this little week turned out to be truly amazing.
Gran Canaria really blew our minds and took us back into that magical travelling world again. We met so many beautiful and interesting souls and found ourselves in such wonderful places. This island has got it all ~ beaches, waves, mountains, vulcanos, cactuses, spectacular architecture and the amazing Spanish culture, delicious food and people from all over the world.
We stayed in Las Canteras, the beach of Las Palmas, at the northeast top of the island. There we rented a room in the apartment of two local guys, through Airbnb.com. I love this way of travelling, to live with local people and get the essence of the place and culture instead of staying in resorts among tourists. The apartment is just a 3 minutes walk from the beach and the guys are really good people! They brought us with them on a traditional Spanish fiesta one night, in the streets of the old town and we had a great night.
Although it was very enjoyable to stay at the beach all days long, we still had a desire to explore the island. So we rented a little motorbike for two days and cruised down south to Maspalomas and to Playa del Sardina in north west the other day. I cannot even describe the feeling of roadtripping around this tropical island with him that I love the most..
Our little week in paradise was over way too early though, and before we knew it we landed in Norway and the cold winds whipped snow in our faces. But it was still nice to come back home to our cozy little place here in Trondheim. The sun and adventures gave me a lot of new energy to keep working hard to reach my goals! Bring it on, 2016, I am ready for another evolving year!
